Janet Novas. Galician dancer, teacher and creator. She resides in Barcelona since 2020. She has studied contemporary dance between Madrid, Brussels and Berlin. In 2008 she began to create and develop her own projects.

Her work is built from observation, experience and dialogue with her body as the main tool, betting on her own language, molding the emotional content and aesthetic simplicity that characterize her work. His creations have been presented at prestigious national and international festivals such as Rencontres Chorégraphiques, Festival de Marseille, Festival Nouvelles-Pole Sud, Cement Festival, FIDCU (Montevideo), MOV_S, TNT Dansa, Festival de Otoño, Centro Cultural Conde Duque and the Mercat de les Flors among others.

Throughout her career she has received several awards such as the “El Ojo Crítico” from Rne (2021), the Catalan Critics Award for best dancer for the piece “Mercedes mais eu” (2021), 2nd prize in the XXI Choreographic Contest from Madrid (2007), a scholarship for the danceWEBeurope 2008 (Vienna), the Artistic Assistance award at the B Mótion Festival of Bassano del Grappa (2008) or the InJuve Award (2011) with his creation “ Cara pintada”.

This same year she is selected to participate in the ChoreoRoam Europe workshop and residency program organized by The Place, Festival Opera Estate, Dansateliers, Danceweek Festival and the Certamen Coreográfico de Madrid.

As a choreographer she has also directed the movement part of the 2014 Max Awards Gala and the Mestre Mateo Awards (Galicia). She has collaborated with artists such as Mercedes Peón with the piece “Mercedes mais eu” and the fashion designers Zap & Buj with the piece “Imaginé cinco cuerpos y ninguno era el mío”, a production of Veranos de la Villa (2019). She has been an artist associated with Graner for two years (2022-2023) with her proyect Proto (SN1806) recently premiered at the TNT Festival (Catalonia).

Currently, she has filmed, as the main actress, the film “O Corno”, by director Jaione Camborda, awarded the Golden Shell at the San Sebastián Film Festival and nominated for the Goya Awards for best new actress. The film has also been selected in Festivals such as the Toronto International Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, BFI London Festival among others.

She has also filmed as a supporting actress “Los cantos de Ekai” by Afra Rigamonti.

Janet Novás alternates her work as a dancer, creator and actress with that of a teacher, teaching classes and workshops in different centers in Spain, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
